A creepily more-human-than-I-want-to-admit robot named Sophia has been awarded citizenship in Saudi Arabia.
For the sake of this conversation… Sophia, if you ever read this, sorry for calling you creepy… did I really just type that?
“I am very honored and proud of this unique distinction,” Sophia told the audience. “This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship.”
During a Q&A with “Sophia”, the interview asked twice about Blade Runner, once stating that some humans are worried IA may become like the movie… too realistic.
She replied, “You’ve been reading too much Elon Musk. And watching too many Hollywood movies,” Sophia told Sorkin. “Don’t worry, if you’re nice to me, I’ll be nice to you. Treat me as a smart input output system.”
The main guy behind “Sophia” is David Hanson of Hanson Robotics. At one point back in 2016 he asked Sophia (in a live demo), “Do you want to destroy humans?… Please say ‘no.'” With a robotic stare, Sophia responded, “OK. I will destroy humans.”
Back in June, she appeared on Good Morning Britain and “told a joke” — which got A LOT of attention. I guess because it was not planned.
During her appearance, the bizarre robot told presenters she thought Britain was ‘brilliant’ and said ‘I love your posh English accent. It really has a nice ring’.
‘Could you handle a very confident man who likes the sound of his own voice?’ Morgan asked on the ITV show.
Sophia calmly replied; ‘I would ask him to focus on observing and listening more than talking’.
At one point Morgan said ‘You’re a little freak, aren’t you?’
During her appearance, the bizarre robot told presenters she thought Britain was ‘brilliant’ and said ‘I love your posh English accent. It really has a nice ring’.
She said her ideal partner was ‘super-wise, compassionate, super-genius, ideally’ but that she was technically just over a year old and still ‘a bit young to worry about romance’.
