Liberal loon, Michael Bloomberg told a conference that raising taxes on the poor is looking out for their best interest because the elite are so much better at making your life choices than you are if you are poor.
I guess the right to choose only applies to murdering babies. And besides, who better than a billionaire to tell the poor how to live. For a guy like Bloomberg, taking a group of friends out to dinner to a five-star restaurant for dinner and drinks costing ten grand is no biggie but to a poor family of four, that might well be their food budget for a year.
So here is Bloomberg on stage with another global mandarin, Christine Lagarde of the International Monetary Fund. He refers to low-income individuals as “those people” and then takes a shot at coal miners and the U.S. military. He clearly reveals his arrogant, bullying worldview. The entire thing is bad, but we’ve bolded a few of the most obnoxious sentences [click here for video]:
Michael Bloomberg: “Some people say, well, taxes are regressive. But in this case, yes they are. That’s the good thing about them because the problem is in people that don’t have a lot of money. And so, higher taxes should have a bigger impact on their behavior and how they deal with themselves. So, I listen to people saying ‘oh we don’t want to tax the poor.’ Well, we want the poor to live longer so that they can get an education and enjoy life. And that’s why you do want to do exactly what a lot of people say you don’t want to do.
Bloomberg used sugary drinks as a prime example. You might remember that as mayor of New York City, he tried to ban sugary drinks that he considered too large. But I say “When Big Gulps are banned only criminals will have Big Gulps.”
Bloomberg said that by taxing sugary drinks, the poor will buy less of them. It might also lead the Mexican cartels to smuggle Coke into the country.
