A man in South Carolina has been arrested after allegedly driving a vehicle onto a church playground and injuring two children and a teacher in what authorities described as a targeted and violent act.
The 36-year-old suspect reportedly took his mother’s car without permission before heading to the playground of Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Sullivan’s Island. Witnesses say he drove through the area at high speed, striking a 12-year-old boy, a 10-year-old boy, and an adult teacher.
The teacher suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized. The 12-year-old was also taken to the hospital for treatment, while the younger child was treated at the scene and later released.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot and was later discovered hiding under a boat cover near a nearby dock. Authorities arrested him without resistance.
He now faces three counts of attempted murder and an additional charge of first-degree aggravated assault. The suspect is being held without bond, with a court appearance scheduled for June 13.
The incident has shocked the small beach town and raised new concerns about safety in public recreational spaces. Investigators are still working to determine a possible motive.
