In a bold and resolute stance for the rights of female athletes, Selina Soule, a champion in track and field, is rallying women to join her in the ongoing legal battle against Connecticut. Soule, who experienced the unfairness of competing against biological males during her high school years, made an impassioned plea on “America Reports,” urging all those who have faced similar challenges to raise their voices and demand fairness. She stressed that progress is being made, and every woman deserves a sense of safety and protection.
With unwavering determination, Soule called on everyone to unite and advocate for equality in women’s sports. These statements were made in light of her upcoming appeal against a verdict that allows transgender youth to participate in sports according to their gender identity in Connecticut.
The legal dispute began in 2020 when Soule and other plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against the Connecticut Association of Schools, arguing that the policy permitting biological males to compete against females in track violated Title IX. However, U.S. District Court Judge Robert Chatigny dismissed the case on procedural grounds, citing the graduation of the two transgender athletes involved and the plaintiffs’ inability to identify other female transgender athletes. The Alliance Defending Freedom is currently working to appeal this ruling.
During her appearance on Fox News, Soule’s attorney, Christiana Kiefer, highlighted the inherent physical advantage that biological men possess over women in sports, leading to unequal athletic opportunities. Kiefer emphasized that Title IX had been violated, as girls deserve a level playing field. Soule’s personal experience of being sidelined in her own sport exemplified this breach.
The retirement announcement of 35-time national cyclocross champion Hannah Arensman on the same day further underscored Soule’s concerns that transgender athletes are discouraging women from pursuing their chosen fields.
Expressing her profound disappointment, Soule bemoaned the fact that women are abandoning their careers or switching events due to the need to compete against men who, if competing in their biological gender, would be considered average at best. She found the situation highly frustrating and stressed the importance of ensuring that women’s issues are not overshadowed by men. Soule firmly advocated for the segregation of women’s sports from men’s as a way forward.
As Soule continues her legal fight, her unwavering determination aims to shed light on the significance of fairness and equal opportunities for female athletes. Her rallying cry serves as an urgent call to action for women across the nation to unite and reclaim their rights within the realm of sports.
