Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Washington, DC, has requested a ‘conversation’ on the Senate floor regarding how to handle funding for gun-rights havens.

Chris Murphy, a Democrat, said on Sunday that the Senate has to talk about whether or not to keep funding “Second Amendment sanctuary” states and counties.

As a “growing problem in this society,” Murphy claimed on CNN’s “State of the Union” that 60% of counties in the United States refuse to implement state and federal gun regulations.

State and federal gun prohibitions are not going to be enforced in the great majority of counties in our nation, a senator from Connecticut said. They have decided they will break the laws that are currently in place.

When asked if they should continue supporting law enforcement in states that are refusing to enact these gun regulations, Murphy said he would debate the issue with his colleagues.

Murphy has revived his plea to “defund the police” as a crime crisis rages in major American cities in the run-up to the November midterm elections. This comes after numerous Democrats, including President Biden, called to fund the police.

The Major Cities Chiefs Association issued its midyear study on violent crime in September after surveying more than 70 major U.S. law enforcement agencies. There has been a 2.6% rise in assaults leading to serious bodily harm and a 13.1% increase in robberies over projections for 2021.

Murphy’s statements raise issues about how communities headed by Democrats have implemented or failed to enforce immigration rules in light of the influx of migrants crossing the southern border and the riots that have broken out throughout 2020.
