A manhunt concluded on June 20 with the arrest of 32‑year‑old Amanda Kempton from Virginia, charged in the fatal hit-and-run death of real estate agent and Netflix personality Sara Burack. Burack, 40, was discovered unconscious on Montauk Highway near Hampton Bays just before 3 a.m. on June 19 and later died at Stony Brook University Hospital from head trauma and multiple fractures.
Kempton faces a Class D felony for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death—a crime that can carry up to seven years in prison. She pleaded not guilty during her arraignment and was released on $100,000 bail after her family posted collateral. Investigators used license-plate readers to track her vehicle; damage and Burack’s pink suitcase were found attached to the car. Kempton reportedly believed she had struck a traffic cone in foggy conditions and noted alcohol was not a factor.
