Tiffany Henyard, the mayor of Dolton, Illinois, and supervisor of Thornton Township, has sparked controversy with her recent comments to constituents amid a swirl of accusations and scandal. Henyard referred to the mounting criticism and calls for her resignation as a “s–tshow,” accusing residents and the media of not presenting the facts truthfully. Her remarks came during a heated township meeting where she faced vocal opposition from the community.
Henyard, who calls herself a “super mayor,” has been under intense scrutiny for alleged misuse of taxpayer funds and a sexual assault scandal linked to one of her supporters. This controversy escalated when former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was hired by the township to investigate Henyard’s activities. During the township meeting, Henyard attempted to redirect the conversation towards unity and assistance among community members, specifically addressing the black and brown communities she represents.
The meeting was marked by boos and sharp critiques from attendees. Dolton resident Mary Avon responded to Henyard’s deflections by saying, “When you don’t answer questions, there’s something to hide.” Another resident, Curtis Watts from South Holland, expressed the community’s frustration directly to Henyard, stating, “No, ‘madam supervisor,’ we are not brainwashed. We are fed up.”
Allegations against Henyard include firing an employee who claimed she was sexually assaulted by one of Henyard’s supporters during a tax-funded trip to Las Vegas. This has prompted further examination of Henyard’s handling of such serious accusations. Additionally, the local board has accused her of hiding personal expenses covered by public funds, and the FBI is reportedly investigating claims that she improperly used taxpayer money for extensive overtime pay for police officers serving as her personal security detail.
These developments have left many residents of Dolton and Thornton Township concerned about the transparency and integrity of Henyard’s administration. As investigations continue, the community remains vocal in its demand for accountability and clarity on the financial and ethical conduct of their local government leaders.
