The incident occurred outside of a recreation center where hundreds of people were gathered for prayer. The 42-year-old woman has been detained but the incident is not believed to be related to terrorism but “simply” a driver who lost control of her car.
Six people were injured as a result, 3 adults and 3 children with at least 1 of the children being in critical condition. An eyewitness states that she [the driver] was at the prayer and was about to leave and she lost control. Initially, it seems, many people rushed the car and the driver believing this to be an act of terror while others rushed to the injured to begin assistance.
This has occurred, however, just days after a man INTENTIONALLY “plowed” through a crowd of Muslims outside a Mosque in London, the 48-year-old suspect stated he did it on purpose.
As written for Daily Caller by Jacob Bojesson:
“Police inquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened but, at this time, it is not believed to be a terror incident,” a Northumbria Police spokesman said, according to The Independent. “We have taken six people to hospital, they have gone to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, three children and three adults.”
An 8-year-old boy was critically injured after getting stuck under the car. Eyewitnesses describe how people rushed to the car after assuming a terror attack was in motion.
“From what I understand, [a woman who had been at prayer] was about to leave in her car and I believe she lost control,” an eyewitness told BBC. “I ran up straight away because everyone was moving in on all the injured, trying to put water in their mouths.”
