Lakesha Woods Williams, a 29-year-old mother from Houston, Texas, faces serious charges after allegedly leaving her two young children alone for nearly a week to go on a cruise. Williams was arrested and charged with two counts of child endangerment after her 6-year-old and 8-year-old children were found unattended in her high-rise apartment.
The incident came to light when deputies from the Harris County Constable’s Office – Precinct 5 responded to a welfare check at Williams’ apartment located in the 9700 block of Katy Freeway on April 9, following a concerned call about the welfare of the children. Upon arrival, officers discovered the children by themselves. The children informed the deputies that their mother was away on a cruise, which she had left for on April 4 and returned on the evening of April 10.
Authorities immediately called paramedics and Child Protective Services to ensure the children’s health and safety. Constable Ted Heap expressed his concern over the situation, emphasizing the importance of accountability for those responsible for leaving the children in such a precarious situation. Following her arrest, Williams was booked into the Harris County Detention Facility with a bond set at $25,000.
The children are now in the care of a relative, ensuring their safety following the ordeal. This case has highlighted the critical issues surrounding child safety and the responsibilities of parents. Williams is scheduled to appear in court soon to face the charges related to her actions.
