Four ladies were seen on camera in San Diego, California, harassing a street vendor.
Another can be heard shouting, “If you charge me $7, I’m going to f**k you over,” as one of the ladies is seen flinging the vendor’s items about his cart.
The street vendor desperately wants people to ignore his cart. Two of the perpetrators are currently enrolled at Cal State San Marcos but have not been identified.
The harassment of a San Diego hot dog vendor by four obscenely-speaking ladies about the pricing of his $7 hot dogs was caught on camera; one of the women was seen licking food that she had not purchased.
A video of the incident shows four teenage ladies, who look shaken up, harassing a Latino seller and calling him names.
It is unclear who these women are, but they throw the food about his cart and one of them says, “If you charge me $7, I’m going to f**k you over.”
For a while, the seller later revealed to be named Andrés Argüelles Alvarez, keeps his cool and calmly begs them to stop and move away from his cart. According to witnesses, he did not do anything to warrant the barrage of abuse he received.
One of the ladies can be seen scooping up a few of the ingredients, licking her fingers to mix them, and then returning them to the hot skillet on the cart. Many more ladies joined the pawing and eating off the hot dish, forcing Alvarez to strike out at them for their lack of hygiene.
“Will you kindly move?” Amid the women’s mockery, Alvarez asks.
One of the ladies slurs her words as she says, “She’s not doing anything, to be honest.”
Another woman yells, “We’re not doing anything!” in protest.
Should we relocate if we decide we need another hot dog? No, we shouldn’t!’ the woman who speaks out the most exclaims. Asking, “Shall we relocate, sir? We shouldn’t,’ she insists before we hear the no.
After being somewhat quiet, another woman now leans over with her arm to attempt to take another piece of food, which pisses Alvarez off.
Calling out “Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! He angrily cries “Stop!” and hurls a pair of frying tongs in their direction, motioning for the women to finally retreat from his cart.
The colleges have opened an investigation into the actions of the four persons, but have not confirmed the identities of any of the harassers.
The Los Angeles Times claims that two of the ladies are current or former Cal CSU San Marcos students.
There was a third female student who videotaped the incident. Cal State did not disclose the identities of those involved, but they did say an inquiry has been launched and that the actions were not tolerated.
The women’s apparent displeasure with Alvarez’s $7 hot dogs seemed to set off the fight.
The group of four insisted that Alvarez sell them the property for less money, but he refused and told them to leave.
The women seemed to be having too much fun teasing the vendor, as they started touching the food on the grill and tossing it.
“They snatched my bacon with their hand, all my veggies, everything I use,” Alvarez said to Telemundo.
In other words, when people saw how filthy they were being, it repulsed them. They lost interest in further purchases.
They saw that I was Mexican and didn’t speak English very well, so they figured, “Oh, we can assault him,” Alvarez thinks.
Morgan McBrearty, a bystander, stated that the ladies “were already there pestering Andrés.”
McBrearty told NBC News that she defended Alvarez “after I repeatedly heard and witnessed them speak to him in nasty and disrespectful tones” and take items from his cart.
The females “were still harassing him” after McBrearty had left.
Riley Kaufman, another student who filmed the incident, said that Alvarez “did nothing to cause this.” The only people there were furious, inebriated women out to make trouble.
Kaufman elaborated, saying, “The hotdog seller is also the loveliest man.”
The other two students in the video may or may not be affiliated with San Diego State University, but the university has made a statement saying it is still investigating. Thank you to the students that notified the university administration so immediately. The video depicts disturbing and uncalled-for behavior.
There has been some internet name-dropping, but it hasn’t been verified that any of those engaged are indeed SDSU students. The Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities at San Diego State University is now evaluating the footage and is requesting that any students with knowledge of the incident and its participants come forward immediately.
The actions depicted in the video do not reflect the norms of conduct to which SDSU holds its community members regarding individual and community safety.
Margaret Chantung, a representative for Cal State San Marcos, issued a similar statement, saying, “The acts in this video are incredibly disrespectful to the vendor and go against the university’s values and how we want members of the community to behave.”
To get to the bottom of what transpired, our dean of students is conducting an investigation.
