Amid ongoing concerns regarding his age-related physical appearance, President Joe Biden has recently modified the route he takes to and from Marine One, the presidential helicopter. As was his customary practice, Biden is now frequently accompanied by aides as he traverses the South Lawn of the White House. By implementing this modification, Biden may potentially attract less attention to his personal antics while projecting a more unified persona.

A sequence of public incidents, including a stumble down the staircases of Air Force One, cast doubt on Biden’s mobility and balance. This modification is in response to those concerns. These modifications to protocol, which Biden himself advocated for a less formal approach, reportedly went into effect in mid-April, according to sources with close ties to the administration. Consequently, senior aides were observed accompanying Biden while strolling closely, strategically positioning themselves between the President and the camera crews. Notable among these aides are close adviser Mike Donilon and Deputy Chiefs of Staff Bruce Reed and Annie Tomasini.

Bates, a spokesman for the White House, offered a lighthearted remark regarding the situation, suggesting that the minor modifications in Biden’s demeanor during these strolls ought not to be magnified. According to a statement made by a White House official, the President instructed his subordinates to follow him around in a less formal manner a few weeks ago. Thus, they increased their proximity while strolling.

Physician Biden has provided medical commentary regarding his gait, stating that it is influenced by moderate sensory peripheral neuropathy in his feet and spinal arthritis, both of which contribute to his difficulties. Biden has been attending regular physical therapy sessions in an effort to remedy and potentially manage his condition.

Furthermore, adjustments have been implemented with respect to the flight of Biden aboard Air Force One; the stairs have been shortened to provide more convenient access. In addition, Biden has begun donning “Hoka Transports,” recently introduced footwear that prioritizes optimal stability and has garnered recognition from the American Podiatric Association for its positive impact on foot health.
