There is an old saying that people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Either Former FEMA chief of staff under President Barack Obama Michael Coen never heard of that or he is ignoring it. Don’t worry, I am the weapon of mass instruction. Coen complained that President Trump has failed to address the coronavirus threat but he seems to forget how the Obama administration handled the H1N1 bird flu epidemic.
President Trump allocated 2.5 billion dollars to aid in the fight against the coronavirus on February 24th, before a single person died from the disease and declared a state of emergency on January 31st, well before them first death. Obama did declare a state of emergency and put up just 1 billion dollars to fight the disease but not before 61 million contracted the disease and over 1,000 deaths occured.
Glenn also gave a rundown of the latest coronavirus numbers as of Tuesday morning:
Daily Stats as of 6:30 a.m. ET
- Total confirmed cases 92,275 (up from 89,842 Monday)
- Total confirmed dead 3,130 (up from 3,069 Monday)
- 77 countries have confirmed cases (up from 70 Monday)
- 18% of active cases are considered serious (requiring Hospitalization) including 5% that require ICU treatment
- U.S. has 103 confirmed cases, and now 6 deaths (all in Washington state)
- CDC website no longer directly reporting total number of U.S. citizens tested since regional hospitals can now directly test
President Trump has also issued a travel ban from countries like China, Italy and Iran, where the disease has reached epidemic proportions. Obama let anyone come in from anywhere which probably caused even more infections with the people they came in contact with. So, does Coen really want to compare what Trump has done versus what he and Obama didn’t? Inquiring minds want to know.
