The planned July wedding of Madison Bergmann, a Wisconsin elementary school teacher, and her fiancé Sam Hickman, has been canceled following Bergmann’s arrest for inappropriate conduct with a fifth-grade student. The couple, who were scheduled to marry on July 27, have indefinitely postponed their nuptials, with a friend of Hickman revealing that the decision was mutual, stemming from the shocking allegations against Bergmann.
Bergmann, 24, was apprehended after the young student’s parents discovered texts that indicated an inappropriate relationship, leading to swift legal action and Bergmann’s arrest. According to the charges, Bergmann exchanged messages with the 11-year-old that included detailed descriptions of their physical interactions within school premises. The discovery was made when the boy’s father presented these messages to the authorities at River Crest Elementary School, prompting an immediate investigation.
This distressing situation was further complicated by evidence found in Bergmann’s possession, which included handwritten notes about the encounters, intensifying the seriousness of the allegations. The relationship allegedly began in December, coincidentally the same month Bergmann and Hickman announced their engagement.
As the community reels from these developments, Hickman’s friend expressed the profound impact of the incident on Hickman, describing him as heartbroken, embarrassed, and shocked by the revelations. The emotional toll is significant, with Hickman grappling with the dual blow of betrayal and the nature of the infidelity involving a child.
Following the arrest, Bergmann was placed on administrative leave and is prohibited from contacting any students, parents, or staff within the district, as the Hudson School District informed parents on the day of her arrest. She faces charges of first-degree child sexual assault and was released on a $25,000 signature bond.
The incident has not only halted wedding plans but has also cast a long shadow over the lives of those involved, as legal proceedings and community reactions continue to unfold.
