Ahead of his town hall meeting in North Augusta, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received a significant boost from fifteen South Carolina legislators. The endorsements were publicly announced by the DeSantis team on Thursday, strategically aiming to strengthen their support base across the state.
State Senator Josh Kimbrell, one of the endorsing senators, praised DeSantis’ leadership and emphasized that Florida has become a sanctuary for those seeking freedom during challenging times. Kimbrell highlighted DeSantis’ strong stance against the radical left, positioning him as the sole candidate capable of defeating Joe Biden, restoring executive power, and implementing the bold conservative agenda desired by Republicans throughout South Carolina.
Governor DeSantis, in his pursuit of the Republican Party nomination, garnered support from four state senators and eleven state representatives. State Senators Josh Kimbrell, Dwight Loftis, Rex Rice, and Danny Verdin, along with Representatives Steven Long, Micah Caskey, Gary Brewer, Brandon Guffey, Bill Herbkersman, Bill Hixon, Travis Moore, Roger Nutt, Dennis Moss, Chris Murphy, and Ashley Trantham publicly expressed their endorsement of DeSantis.
South Carolina is also the home state of two other Republican presidential contenders, Nikki Haley and Tim Scott. While former President Trump holds a commanding lead in national and New Hampshire public opinion polls for the GOP nomination, DeSantis remains a strong contender. Most polls position DeSantis in second place, outperforming other Republican contenders who struggle to surpass 10% support.
These legislative endorsements from South Carolina legislators not only solidify Governor DeSantis’ position within the Republican Party but also establish him as a formidable challenger in upcoming primary elections. The endorsements serve as a testament to the confidence placed in his candidacy by influential figures in South Carolina.
