A heartbroken mother in Florida is struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss of her 4-year-old twins, Aurora and Kellan Starr, who suffocated in a wooden toy chest. Sadie Myers, the mother of four from Jacksonville, shared the devastating story in a Facebook post, expressing the pain of losing her two children simultaneously in a way that defies understanding.
In her emotional post, Myers reflected on the unimaginable pain of losing her twins and tried to find meaning in their passing, suggesting that their souls might have been too perfect for this world.
The tragic incident occurred on August 26 when Myers returned home from work after her husband had put their children to bed the previous night. She checked on her sleeping children, including the twins, and later went to bed herself. In the early morning hours, the twins woke up and decided to play in their room, which was a common occurrence. However, this time, they climbed into a wooden cedar toy chest, leaving only a few stuffed animals inside.
Tragically, the twins fell asleep inside the chest, and the lid closed while they were resting. The airtight and soundproof nature of the chest meant they slowly ran out of oxygen within a couple of hours, resulting in their untimely passing.
When Myers’s husband went to check on the twins the next morning, he couldn’t find them. After a frantic search, one of their older siblings discovered the twins inside the toy chest, seemingly asleep. Myers rushed to their side but realized it was too late to save them.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident, and the deaths are under investigation.
Myers expressed the profound grief that her family is experiencing and described the difficulty of trying to cope with their loss without constantly breaking down in front of their other children.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to support the family during this difficult time, raising a significant amount of money from those who wish to offer their condolences and assistance.
The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of child safety and the hidden dangers that may exist in seemingly harmless objects, such as toy chests.
