The Hollywood Police Department reported that four minors, ages 13 to 17, were shot. Everything is fine right now.
On Memorial Day, shots were fired near the beach boardwalk in Hollywood, Florida, injuring at least nine people, including children.
Just before 6:45 p.m. local time, Hollywood police received a call of many people being shot in the area of Johnson St. Officers helped the victims before taking them to nearby medical facilities such as Memorial Regional and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
In a statement, Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy thanked “good samaritans, paramedics, police, and emergency room doctors and nurses” for their quick action in helping the shooting victims.
Deanna Bettineschi, a police spokeswoman, claimed that four kids, the oldest of whom was 17, were shot. She also revealed that five adults, ranging in age from 25 to 65, were among the victims.
Memorial Healthcare System spokeswoman Yanet Obarrio Sanchez confirmed that all victims are in stable condition.
According to Police Chief Chris O’Brien, thousands of people flocked to the region for Memorial Day, making the shooting all the more “unfortunate.”
He said, “It’s unfortunate that a gang of criminals ruin our beaches’ experience for law-abiding citizens.”
According to Bettineschi, a fight between the two groups preceded the gunshot. She revealed that one suspect had been arrested and another was still at large.
The representative stated that the person of interest is thought to be a black male wearing dreadlocks, a black short-sleeve shirt, and camouflage shorts.
Online videos show a panicked throng running for cover on the seaside promenade after gunfire erupts.
Additional videos shared on Twitter and elsewhere On Monday evening, emergency medical services treated numerous injured people.
As the inquiry continues, police have promised a large presence. An area for relatives to meet up was also being prepared by the authorities.
The Hollywood shooting took place on the boardwalk beside the ocean, next to a 7-Eleven, a Ben & Jerry’s, and a Subway.
A prominent beach resort, Hollywood Beach, may be found around 20 miles north of Miami and 11 miles south of Fort Lauderdale. More people than usual were anticipated at the beach on Memorial Day.
