The CBP Commissioner under Biden Steps Down

After being urged to quit or be fired by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Chris Magnus formally resigned on Saturday, a day after telling the media he wanted to stay.

“President Biden, I appreciate the trust you placed in me over the past year to lead U.S. Customs and Border Protection as its Commissioner, a position I was confirmed for by the Senate. Being a member of your administration has been an honor and a privilege. My resignation is effective immediately, and I hope for the best for you and your government in the future. Once again, I appreciate the fantastic chance you’ve given me. “In his resignation letter, Magnus said.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that President Trump had accepted Christopher Magnus’ resignation as Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “Commissioner Magnus has served the United States for over forty years, and President Biden recognizes his exemplary dedication and the reforms he implemented as police chief in three different American communities. The President appreciates Mr. Magnus’s time spent at CBP and sends his best wishes for the future.”

Border Patrol agents, in particular, did not like Magnus because they believed he was more concerned with “reforming” CBP than with resolving the long-standing situation on the U.S.-Mexico border. Magnus allegedly didn’t show up to many White House meetings regarding the southern border problem and often slept off during the ones he did attend.

Magnus’ forced departure, according to former Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott, who too was forced to quit by the Biden administration, is karma.

When news broke that Magnus was leaving CBP, the National Border Patrol Council said, “Good riddance.”

On Friday, former Customs and Border Protection Commissioner and current Heritage Foundation visiting fellow Mark Morgan told Townhall that Magnus was an activist who lacked the qualifications to head the largest federal law enforcement agency in the country.

He’s in way over his head,” Morgan elaborated. “And instead of focusing on resolving the worst border crisis in our lifetime, he’s attacking the Border Patrol, as was widely anticipated. To satisfy his pride and ideology, he accepted a position for which he was unqualified.”
