According to Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar, the Biden administration has been blaming the Republican Party and Congress rather than taking any necessary measures.
On Sunday, Democratic Texas Representative Henry Cuellar said the Biden administration’s plan to deal with the migrant situation at the southern border is not a viable solution.
As Title 42, the public health decree allowing for accelerated deportation of migrants due to the COVID-19 outbreak is slated to expire on December 21, the Texas Democrat made the statements during an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
“[The Biden administration] has been discussing this strategy for the past two years,” Cuellar stated. “They have placed the blame on Republicans and Congress. Whenever it may be, please.”
According to Cuellar, Biden’s plan for the border focuses more on humanitarian concerns than security.
“I’ve looked at that proposal before, and with all due respect… Nothing has changed, “As Cuellar put it.
The Biden administration anticipates an increase in the daily stream of migrants into border communities like El Paso, Texas, if Title 42 is repealed. According to Enrique Lucero, head of migrant affairs in Tijuana, the most prominent Mexican border city, an estimated 5,000 migrants are currently staying in more than 30 shelters.
The Biden administration has requested $3.4 billion from Congress to help the impending immigration crisis.
Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) also joined the program and argued that while the funds are “certainly” required, they cannot be thrown at the issue.
“The challenge is in enforcing the current regulations on the books,” Gonzales added, “and you may have a limitless number of soft-sited facilities.”
He argued that most immigrants are looking for a better life. “I get that,” he remarked. They’re not eligible for asylum because they’re only here for job prospects.
Gonzales has stated that he is eager to talk to the Biden administration about immigration reform.
The Republican stated, “Work visas make sense to me.” “Opportunities to become a citizen; dead on arrival amnesty. There is no hope for success in previous attempts.”
