As CNN struggles, sources say that outgoing anchor Ana Cabrera is collecting some peacock feathers.

On Thursday, Cabrera revealed that she would be departing CNN.

Farewells are never easy. CNN, you’ve been great. (My last performance will be on December 22.) I’m thrilled to be embarking on a new phase of my professional life and anticipate the many chances, challenges, and advancements ahead. She wrote those words.

Cabrera did not reveal where she would go next, although Variety, the New York Post, and the Los Angeles Times all claimed (using unnamed sources) that she would join MSNBC on the NBC Universal network. They at CNN can’t be too delighted about her leaving for a competition.

    Cabrera is now CNN’s 1 p.m. anchor.

According to Variety and the Post’s respective sources, Cabrera is a frontrunner to fill the 11 a.m. time slot at MSNBC that has been vacant since Craig Melvin’s departure.

According to the Post, Cabrera’s decision to leave CNN was not the result of any pressure from the company.

If Cabrera does end up at MSNBC, she will be greeted by some old friends. Laura Jarrett, formerly of CNN, and Rebecca Kutler, formerly of ABC, are two of the newest hires at MSNBC, where they will be covering the Supreme Court.

CNN has just terminated HLN’s live broadcast and let go of journalists Alison Kosik, Martin Savidge, Alex Field, Mary Ann Fox, and Chris Cillizza. As a result of continuing rating declines post-Trump, CNN is making cuts.

The network has reduced its production and other personnel in a further cost-cutting measure. The Wrap stated that “several dozen” digital positions at CNN will be eliminated.

It was announced at the same time as the layoffs that CNN is “also altering our approach to paid contributors,” as written in a message from CNN president Chris Licht to staff. CNN journalists will be relied on more frequently in some places.

As stated in the internal message, “certain cutbacks in show staffs and, in some circumstances, the mix of teams for our dayside and weekend lineups” would be implemented.

Some people, like Cabrera, leave without a word. At the end of her current contract, Barbara Starr, CNN’s Pentagon reporter, will leave the network.

Cabrera is a journalist at CNN. She started working there in 2013. She had previously worked as a reporter and anchor for Spokane, Washington’s KHQ, and KAYU.
