On this week’s episode of “Fox News Sunday,” Republican Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham expressed his willingness to send American soldiers to Taiwan.
In her role as anchor, Shannon Bream stated, “I want to begin with China. You may have overheard a news story about the Taiwan Strait impasse, as reported by Reuters. You’ve put in time with the Air Force. A four-star general predicted we will be in open conflict with China by 2025, as we reported weeks ago. On the program, Chairman McCaul made the same point. Can you tell me where we could be? What is the point of this?
Graham stated, “I believe they are laying the groundwork for what could be a blockade of Taiwan. This year and next year, right before the election, the Chinese Communist Party will put us to a severe test.
We need to teach Taiwanese soldiers to be more aggressive,” he continued. Submarines should be re-armed with missiles. Biden will not comply. The military has requested that the cruise missiles be reinstalled in submarines, as the Russians have done. More troops are required in the area. A roadblock could be avoided if you take such measures.
“So the question for the Congress is, should we have a defense agreement with the island of Taiwan?” Graham said when asked if he backs deploying U.S. soldiers to Taiwan. We do not. What do you think? However, if it were in the best interest of U.S. national security to send American troops to protect Taiwan, I would have no problem with doing so.
