The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to convene in New York City on April 17. The judgments that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg makes on criminal cases will be discussed, along with their effects on the city.
The 9 a.m. conference, titled “Victims of Violent Crime in Manhattan,” will take place in the Javits Federal Building, located at 26 Federal Plaza. The committee, led by Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), will investigate Bragg’s crime strategy and its effects on the city.
According to a tweet, attendees will discuss “how pro-crime, anti-victim policies by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have led to a rise in violent crime and made New York City a more dangerous place to live.”
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives has established many mechanisms to prevent the “weaponization of government” against conservatives. The Judiciary Committee has attempted to investigate Bragg’s workplace.
In New York, former President Donald Trump is being prosecuted by Bragg. Trump is facing almost 30 counts of commercial fraud charges. He’s the first sitting president to be arrested for a crime.
Bragg tweeted back in response. The DA implied the meeting would be a comedy and said it was a political stunt in a statement.
The message warned that people not to be tricked by the House GOP’s “stunt” of visiting the safest major city in the United States. Things like adopting national gun legislation and closing down the iron pipeline, which would really make people safer, won’t be discussed at this meeting.
Forbes ranks New York City’s New York Place as the sixth best large U.S. city with over 300,000.
The DA’s office is eager to engage in conversation regarding public safety issues, according to the message. Part of the announcement mentioned that crime has decreased in the city over the first three months of the year.
