On Thursday, the Republican majority in the House of Representatives advanced a bill to safeguard women’s sports, but it received no Democratic backing. One of them was Minority Leader in the House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
All “kind-hearted Americans” are on my side,” Jeffries claimed in defense of transgender youngsters, and he called out “radical MAGA Republicans” for blowing out of proportion a problem that “doesn’t exist.”
When pressed further on the topic, Jeffries said, “I believe in the fundamental goodness and decency and integrity and respect of the American people.” Given that Democrats currently run the Senate, the likelihood of this measure being passed is low.
Despite the obvious party divide, he insisted that it wasn’t a political matter. In his speech, he emphasized the need of “being there for all of America’s children.”
All young people, including those who identify as transgender, need the chance to succeed… and to feel like they truly belong. And to meet some interesting people,” he said. I think every honest and upstanding American would agree with you on that. Inside the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, conservatives are exaggerating the severity of a nonexistent crisis.
In spite of Jeffries’ claim that such a thing “doesn’t really exist,” transgender athlete Chloe Barnes just helped her team, Brookline High School, win the Massachusetts Division 1 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Lia Thomas, who was born a guy but now identifies as a woman, won the NCAA women’s swimming title last year while competing for the University of Pennsylvania.
This problem has not appeared out of nowhere in the past year or even the past few years. Two transgender high school students from Connecticut recently claimed victory at the state championships for women’s track and field.
Three transgender high school players are the subjects of a new Hulu documentary called “Changing the Game,” which follows them throughout their sporting careers and beyond.
