During a recent statement on Truth Social, former President Trump issued a demand that any Republican who voted against the censure of Adam “Shifty” Schiff should face a primary challenge.
Trump expressed his support for Anna Paulina Luna and praised her relentless dedication to holding individuals like Schiff accountable. He accused Schiff of endangering the country through lies, dishonesty, and deception, suggesting that he should be imprisoned. Trump referred to Schiff as a dishonest leaker and a rogue, emphasizing the need for an immediate primary contest for any Republican who votes against censuring him or taking stronger action. According to Trump, there are numerous qualified candidates ready to step up.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) introduced a resolution in the House Ethics Committee to reprimand Schiff and recommend a $16 million fine if he is found guilty of lying in the performance of his official duties. However, the resolution faced opposition from both Republicans and Democrats, with 20 Republican senators joining forces with Democrats to defeat the proposal. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) argued that the proposed penalty was unconstitutional. It is expected that Luna will reintroduce the resolution in the coming week, but this time without the recommended fine.
In addition to her Twitter post saying, “See you next week Adam,” Luna conveyed her message to Schiff by introducing the resolution, which aims to publicly shame and criticize him for his role as the impeachment manager during Trump’s first impeachment proceedings and for his promotion of the Russia collusion narrative.
As the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Schiff repeatedly claimed to possess “circumstantial evidence” of collusion between Trump, his campaign, and Russia in the 2016 election. However, the special counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of criminal activity. Luna’s resolution not only accuses Schiff of using false accusations to fundraise for his campaign but also calls for a $21 million fine, equivalent to half of the total amount spent on investigating the alleged collusion.
During the impeachment hearings, Schiff controversially fabricated a conversation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and conducted secretive witness interviews within the Capitol. Ultimately, the Senate voted to acquit Trump.
It is worth noting that Schiff is currently a candidate for a seat in the United States Senate from California.
