During a recent testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, Special Counsel John Durham revealed shocking intelligence that had been overlooked by the FBI in 2016. According to Durham, the CIA had received information suggesting that Hillary Clinton had approved a plan to connect then-candidate Donald Trump to Russia. Astonishingly, the FBI failed to properly scrutinize this intelligence and neglected to apply the same standards to allegations concerning both the Clinton and Trump campaigns.

Durham emphasized that the FBI’s reliance on politically funded and unverified opposition research, such as the infamous Steele dossier, was deeply problematic. Even more troubling was the fact that the FBI continued to rely on this dossier and submit FISA applications despite being aware that it contained material originating from a political campaign or opponent.

What makes this revelation even more significant is that intelligence briefings were given to the president, FBI and CIA directors, and other top officials, indicating that there was an ongoing Clinton campaign plan to create a scandal linking Trump to Russia. Yet, this crucial information was deliberately kept from the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane team, which was responsible for investigating possible Trump-Russia collusion.

When the referral memo regarding the “Clinton Plan Intelligence” was shared with Supervisory Special Agent Number 1, he expressed shock and frustration at never having seen it before. This agent, Joe Pientka, was rightfully upset that crucial information was withheld from him by the FBI director, who should have ensured that all relevant details were made available to those conducting the investigation.

Although then-CIA Director John Brennan had promptly briefed top officials, including then-President Barack Obama and then-Vice President Joe Biden, about the significance of this intelligence in July 2016, it had no tangible impact. Despite proper forwarding of the information to the FBI, no action was taken by the agency.

Durham’s report criticized the FBI for failing to act upon this warning sign, which, when combined with other indisputable facts, should have raised concerns about potential manipulation or influence on the law enforcement process for political purposes during the 2016 presidential election.

During his testimony, Durham vehemently denied any partisan or political motivations behind his investigation. He emphasized the serious nature of his findings, which revealed troubling violations of law and policy in highly consequential investigations involving a presidential campaign and administration. Regardless of political affiliation, Durham emphasized that the law should apply to everyone equally and that his investigation deserved the attention of the American public and its representatives.

While some Democrats criticized Durham, accusing him of being a “political hack” and tarnishing his reputation, he remained unfazed. His primary concern was his reputation among those he respected, his family, and his personal convictions.

In conclusion, the testimony by Special Counsel John Durham shed light on overlooked intelligence regarding a Clinton campaign plan to tie Trump to Russia. It exposed the FBI’s failure to properly scrutinize information and apply consistent standards, raising concerns about potential manipulation and political bias within the law enforcement process.
