Acclaimed horror author Stephen King attempted to mock Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) over his 2021 trip to Cancun but faced criticism in return for ignoring the ongoing crisis at the U.S-Mexico border.
The exchange took place on Twitter over several days after Cruz shared a video from his appearance on Fox News. In the video, Cruz expressed concern about the situation at the southern border, emphasizing that it had never been this bad before and blaming President Biden for it.
King joined the conversation by referencing Cruz’s trip to Cancun during a deadly freeze and power failure in Texas. He tweeted, “You’ve also spent a lot of time in Cancun. That’s pretty south, right?”
Cruz fired back, accusing King, a “multi-millionaire Leftist,” of sitting comfortably in his mansion while disregarding the suffering at the border and the deaths of migrants and Americans from drug overdoses. Cruz criticized King for diverting the topic to Cancun instead of addressing the border crisis.
King attempted another jab by highlighting Cruz’s wealth and asking about the well-being of his constituents. Cruz responded by correcting the claim about his net worth and questioning why King refused to acknowledge the point he had made about the people affected by the Biden border crisis.
Cruz stated that he had taken a significant pay cut to fight for the interests of 30 million Texans and accused rich Hollywood liberals like King of neglecting the consequences of their policies on ordinary people.
