Candace Cameron Bure has denied allegations that she tried to get a gay guest actor fired from the Netflix series “Fuller House.”
Bure’s retort follows a TikTok video in which transgender YouTuber Miss Benny claimed to have experienced “homophobic” treatment while working on the show.
Without identifying Bure by name, Benny alluded to a fight with one of the Tanner sisters and said he played the first gay character in the “Full House” franchise. They said they were forewarned that their character was being targeted by fans who wanted them gone.
Bure, who is well-known for her conservative views, responded to Benny’s allegations in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“I never asked for Miss Benny’s character to be removed from ‘Fuller House,'” the 47-year-old actress clarified, “nor did I request the exclusion of queer characters from the show.”
Bure praised Miss Benny’s portrayal of “Casey” on “Fuller House” and remarked on the show’s longstanding commitment to including a diverse cast of characters.
In response to Benny’s observation that he rarely got to talk to the Tanner sisters on site, Bure said that this was because he and they rarely appeared in the same scenes. She wished Miss Benny the best of luck.
Some TikTok users felt that Benny was criticizing Bure because of Jodie Sweetin, the star of “Fuller House” and a strong supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. Bure explained that they had little opportunity to engage during filming, but he wished Miss Benny well in her future aspirations and apologized for the inconvenience.
