A nonprofit organization affiliated with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has come under scrutiny for receiving significant amounts of undisclosed donations from secret donors, despite Schumer’s vocal opposition to dark money in politics. Tax forms reveal that Majority Forward, which is connected to the Senate Majority PAC, experienced a substantial increase in its funding over the past three years, accumulating hundreds of millions of dollars from anonymous contributors.
Between July 2019 and late June 2022, Majority Forward received $271.6 million in anonymous donations, whereas it only received $69 million in the first three years of its operation from June 2015 to May 2018. This surge in funding occurred alongside Schumer’s intensified criticism of Republican dark money operations, highlighting the Democrats’ reliance on a practice they condemn.
Recent tax forms obtained by Fox News Digital show that Majority Forward granted $31.2 million to several left-wing organizations, including Priorities USA, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Americans for Economic Growth, Save My Country Action Fund, Protect Your Vote Nevada, Swing Left, and Emily’s List. Notably, the Senate Majority PAC, which supports Democratic candidates for Congress, received $23 million from Majority Forward. JB Poersch, a longtime Schumer ally, serves as the president of both Majority Forward and the Senate Majority PAC, with shared office space and personnel between the two groups.
Despite Schumer’s public criticism of dark money and his advocacy for legislation against it, his alignment with Majority Forward raises questions about his stance on the issue. Schumer has promoted the For the People Act, which aims to increase transparency by requiring political nonprofits to disclose donors contributing more than $10,000 and file disclosure reports for significant election-related activities. Additionally, Schumer, along with other Democratic politicians, called on right-leaning groups like the Judicial Crisis Network to reveal their donors, while benefiting from their own dark money organizations such as Demand Justice and the Alliance for Justice.
While Majority Forward did not provide a comment in response to inquiries, the revelations surrounding undisclosed donations raise concerns about the influence of dark money in political campaigns and the potential inconsistencies in politicians’ positions on the matter.
