During an interview with Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday,” Chris Christie, a Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, criticized former President Donald Trump’s motives for running again, accusing him of seeking to reverse his defeat in 2020. Christie emphasized that Trump’s focus was primarily on his own ego rather than the well-being of the American people.
Describing Trump as a “three-time loser,” Christie pointed out that he had experienced significant losses in the 2018 House of Representatives elections, the 2020 presidential election, and the 2022 midterms. Christie argued that Trump’s personal agenda overshadowed his commitment to serving the country and its citizens.
When asked about a recent poll suggesting that the majority of Republican voters would not consider voting for him, Christie dismissed the notion and hinted at forthcoming announcements that would demonstrate broad support for his candidacy.
Bream also questioned Christie about his support for FBI Director Christopher Wray, who has faced criticism from many Republicans and threats of removal if they were to win the presidency. Christie reaffirmed his backing for Wray, stating that the issues raised by critics occurred during the tenure of Jim Comey, and Wray had taken steps to address them by replacing key individuals in leadership positions.
As Wray was scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, Christie acknowledged that questions would be raised by Republican critics regarding the alleged politicization of the FBI and mishandling of the Hunter Biden investigation. However, Christie maintained that the recent whistleblowers’ revelations were a consequence of the current atmosphere, rather than the actions of Wray or his predecessor, Loretta Lynch.
Christie also placed blame on President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland, asserting that their lack of leadership had contributed to the challenges faced by the country and the Justice Department.
Throughout the interview, Christie expressed his commitment to his campaign and his belief in the importance of providing strong and effective leadership for the nation.
