Arik Air, the owner of Motostyles, a motorcycle accessory and remote control hobbies store in Los Angeles, has expressed frustration over what he perceives as targeted enforcement by city officials. Air claims that code enforcement officials have repeatedly visited his business, focusing on minor violations like placing a sidewalk sign too close to city property, while turning a blind eye to the growing homeless encampments in the area.
In an interview on “Fox & Friends,” Air shared his grievances, stating that he has been engaged in an ongoing battle with code enforcement for a significant period. He described how officials would change inspectors frequently and issue tickets for seemingly insignificant infractions as a way to justify their work. For instance, Air mentioned receiving a ticket in the past for flying an American flag outside his shop, with officials referring to them as “flag banners.”
Air recounted that in June, code enforcement agents visited his business multiple times, primarily due to a foldable sign on the sidewalk. They insisted that he move the sign by just one inch to avoid encroaching on city property. However, Air argued that the property line extended beyond what the city claimed, asserting his rights as the property owner.
Despite the relentless focus on minor violations, Air expressed frustration that city officials were not addressing the increasing number of homeless encampments in the area. He criticized their apparent lack of concern and questioned their priorities, highlighting the stark contrast between their swift response to his shop and their inaction towards other pressing issues in the community.
Feeling the burden of repeated visits and fines, Air stated that he is contemplating leaving California altogether. He mentioned that another business he collaborates with has already relocated to the Charlotte area in North Carolina.
The show reached out to the city of Los Angeles for comment, but no response was received at the time.
