Over the weekend, Twitter owner Elon Musk made a surprising announcement that his social media platform will undergo a significant logo change, bidding farewell to its recognizable bird emblem. Through a series of tweets late on Saturday, Musk hinted at a move towards using the letter “X” as the new symbol.
Musk’s initial tweet, “Paint It Black,” was followed by a poll for users to vote on changing the platform’s default color to black, with approximately 75% voting in favor of the switch. He further expressed the upcoming departure from the “twitter brand” and gradually, all bird-related elements.
Twitter users may not have to wait long for the change, as Musk suggested that if a suitable X logo is posted soon, it could go live as early as Monday. He also shared an image of Twitter’s current logo on a faded black background, hinting at the potential look for the new logo. Musk described it as an emblem meant to embody the imperfections that make individuals unique.
A flickering X image was also tweeted by Musk, which some speculate could provide a glimpse of the new logo, though no official confirmation has been given. Musk mentioned that the new logo would be “closest in style” to art deco, dropping subtle hints about his preference for the letter X.
In the past, a legal filing indicated that Twitter, Inc. had been replaced by X Corp., solidifying Musk’s plans for a rebranding. Musk’s long-term vision for Twitter is to evolve it into something far more comprehensive, referred to as “X, the everything app.”
Having acquired the platform in October in a deal worth $44 billion, Musk has already made several changes based on user feedback and poll results, including the reinstatement of former President Donald Trump’s account.
With these recent developments, Twitter is poised for a transformative makeover, moving away from its iconic bird logo and embracing the new X emblem as it evolves into the ambitious “X, the everything app.”
