McCarthy Takes Aim at Biden: Soaring Gas Prices

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is vehemently criticizing President Biden for the recent surge in gas prices, attributing this crisis to what he deems “Bidenomics.”

In a blog post dated August 10th, McCarthy underscored that millions of Americans are grappling with the challenge of filling their gas tanks due to the adverse impact of Biden’s economic policies. In the past month alone, gas prices have surged by 30 cents, McCarthy pointed out, causing over a third of Americans to curtail their travel plans.

Quoting a driver from Wichita, Kansas, McCarthy highlighted the tangible frustrations that the rising prices are causing among citizens. The driver stated to a local news station, “It’s frustrating because anything that cuts into my pocket means less money that I can put away for my retirement, less money I can spend on things I enjoy.”

The blog post then posed a pointed question: “So what exactly is President Biden doing to help real Americans like Jeremy?”

Instead of embracing policies that would harness the nation’s energy production to mitigate pump prices, McCarthy contended that Biden is persistently championing the same radical ideals promoted by the Green New Deal. These policies have, according to McCarthy, led to a 60 percent increase in gas prices since Biden’s assumption of office. McCarthy criticized Biden for boasting about his attempts to halt drilling on various coasts, despite legal setbacks. In a Weather Channel interview, Biden acknowledged his inability to fulfill this agenda but expressed determination in pursuing these initiatives. The narrative of “climate change” has been adopted by the radical left and some mainstream media outlets as an explanation for escalating gas prices.

McCarthy continued, emphasizing the economic significance of energy independence for America. He referenced the enactment of the Lower Energy Costs Act, designed to enhance energy affordability by reducing bureaucratic obstacles and prioritizing American energy over foreign competition. McCarthy accused Biden of pursuing a contrary course, bowing to foreign leaders and introducing regulations that undermine energy independence. He criticized the depletion of national petroleum reserves to their lowest level since the 1980s, alluding to the consequences that ordinary Americans are bearing due to these detrimental policies.

Gas prices reached an average of $3.828 on Thursday, compared to $3.543 a month earlier. AAA spokesman Andrew Gross indicated that the trajectory of gas prices remains uncertain, with oil costs influencing the direction they take. The Biden administration has attempted to reshape public perception, asserting that Biden’s actions have historically lowered gas prices, despite the stark reality of their increase during his tenure.
