Biden Evades Press After Special Counsel Appointment

A clamor of press inquiries rang around President Biden as he left the White House for Delaware, but he was met with a resolute quiet. The recent appointment of a special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland, entrusted with investigating the actions of his son, Hunter Biden, served as the backdrop to the conversation.

Reporter Steven Nelson of the New York Post filmed the scene, which showed reporters clamoring for information and asking inquiries about the appointment of the special counsel, the alleged involvement of the president in the business ventures of his son abroad, and the looming possibility of impeachment by the House of Representatives.

While the media was asking questions, President Biden gave a short grin but continued on without speaking to them. This is consistent with his record for avoiding press interviews, and after the special counsel’s public statement, he continued to ignore questions from reporters.

The appointment of U.S. Attorney David Weiss as the special counsel charged with looking into Hunter Biden’s activities and any related issues was made public by Attorney General Garland earlier in the day. Weiss’ selection had merit because of his earlier involvement in the federal prosecution of Hunter’s commercial operations and subsequent legal actions in Delaware. This action demonstrates that, despite claims by Hunter Biden’s legal team to the contrary, the Justice Department’s investigation into his business transactions continues.

On that Friday, Garland said that the probe was still proceeding. Weiss will act as the special counsel “for the ongoing investigation and prosecutions referenced and described in United States v. Robert Hunter Biden, as well as for any other matters that arose or may arise from that investigation,” according to a statement from the Justice Department.

The way the statement is written raises the possibility that President Biden and other family members will be included in the investigation’s purview. A representative for the Department of Justice decided not to make any public comments when asked earlier in the day whether President Biden is connected to the investigation.
