A former consultant with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) named Charles Littlejohn, 38, has been charged with disclosing the tax returns of thousands of the nation’s wealthiest individuals, including a high-ranking government official, to news organizations. Littlejohn allegedly stole the tax returns between 2018 and 2020. The tax information, which dated back more than 15 years, was disclosed to the New York Times and Pro Publica, a nonprofit investigative journalism group based in New York City. Although former President Trump’s tax returns were among those disclosed, he is not named in the complaint. If convicted, Littlejohn faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. A guilty plea is reportedly in the works.
