New York City Mayor Eric Adams has embarked on a four-day tour of Latin America, with stops in Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia. His primary goal is to engage with Central and South American leaders and discuss the issue of migration to New York City and the United States.

Adams aims to dissuade potential migrants from making the journey to the United States by informing them of the realities they would face upon arrival. He wants to dispel any misconceptions that migrants may have about finding immediate employment and comfortable living conditions in New York City.

During his trip, Adams plans to learn more about the dangerous routes and challenges that asylum seekers face on their journey to the United States. He also intends to provide a more accurate picture of what awaits migrants in New York City.

The mayor’s visit comes as the daily number of asylum seekers arriving in the city has surged, putting strain on the city’s shelter system. Adams aims to address the issue both locally and internationally and seeks to collaborate with leaders in the region to find solutions to the migration challenges.

As part of his tour, Adams will visit migrant sites in Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia and engage in discussions with local leaders and stakeholders. He hopes that by fostering dialogue and understanding, a resolution to the migration issue can be reached.
