Former ESPN host Sage Steele shared her experience of interviewing President Biden in March 2021, describing it as “the saddest thing” because Biden seemed confused and had difficulty finishing his sentences. Steele, who admitted she didn’t vote for Biden and considers him a “terrible president,” emphasized the human aspect of witnessing his apparent struggles.

During the interview, Steele had to stall due to technical issues, and while waiting, she overheard Biden asking his aides about the interview’s purpose and her name. When she revealed it was for ESPN’s SportsCenter, Biden began discussing his high school football career, emphasizing his “great hands.” However, his voice trailed off, and he struggled to complete his sentences, leading Steele to feel sadness about the situation.

Steele’s podcast appearance came shortly after comedian Bill Maher suggested that Biden should drop out of the 2024 presidential race due to concerns about his age and electability. Maher humorously referred to Biden as the “only Democrat who can lose to Trump” despite their relatively close ages.
