Recent comments made by Vice President Joe Biden during a press event have prompted eyebrows to be raised due to an unexpected comparison he used in answer to a question regarding the gloomy views that Americans have towards the economy. These words were made in response to the question “What do you think will happen to the economy in the next year?” The Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, chose to respond to a reporter’s question on the reasons why a large number of individuals in the United States continue to feel that the economy is not doing well despite good economic data by using an example that took a turn that was unexpected.

The very first thing that he did was speak to the media and tell them, “You all are not the happiest people in the world.” This comment, on its own, was enough to catch the attention of a lot of people since it seemed to make a reference to the sometimes acrimonious relationship that exists between politicians and the media. However, the parallel that he offered as a follow-up was the one that immediately stood out to me.

The following is what the next item was that Joe Biden had to say: “You turn on the television, and there’s not a whole lot about ‘Boy saves dog as he swims in the lake.'” “Look, I get it. I really do. “It’s about ‘Somebody pushed the dog into the lake.'”

The metaphor that he chose was rather original; he compared the focus of the media on negative occurrences to a scenario involving dogs and lakes. This was an interesting way to put things. This was a peculiar course of action. When compared to the report that “Somebody pushed the dog in the lake,” the news item stating “Boy saves dog” represents positive information, while the report that “Somebody pushed the dog in the lake” represents negative information in this scenario. It appears that Vice President Biden was alluding to the fact that the media has a predisposition to focus bad news over positive news, and that this concentration may be one aspect that leads to the notion that the economy is not doing well. This can be inferred from the fact that he stated that the media has a tendency to highlight negative news over positive news.

However, what struck out about it was its uniqueness and the unexpected path that the argument took. It’s probable that the objective of the parallel was to call attention to the significant role that the media plays in molding public opinion. The comments that Vice President Biden made were delivered with a dash of humor, but they also represented his viewpoint on the influence that the media has on the way that the general public perceives the status of the economy.
