Judge Halts Trump’s Business Breakup in NY Trial

A judge on the appeals court has decided that former President Donald Trump can keep control of his enterprises for the time being, but the judge has denied his plea to postpone the civil trial he is now facing in Manhattan. This ruling comes five days into the carefully watched trial, in which New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing Trump and his enterprises for alleged fraud. The trial has been receiving a lot of attention. A prior ruling by Judge Arthur Engoron had resulted in the revocation of Trump’s company licenses and the appointment of a receiver to manage his businesses.

The attorneys for Trump had requested that the trial be halted and that the judge be prevented from carrying out his earlier decision. Despite the fact that this motion was denied by the judge, he did agree to let Trump retain control of his commercial assets.

The legal team for Trump contended that the judge’s judgment would cause severe injury to Trump, his businesses, and his employees since it would leave the status of his firms’ bank accounts and property in question.

Allen Weisselberg, who has served as Trump’s longtime financial head, will take the stand as a witness as the trial continues. Weisselberg, who is also a defendant in the lawsuit, was in charge of overseeing Trump’s financial transactions and directing the creation of financial statements.
