According to a person who is acquainted with the issue, Special Counsel David Weiss is set to appear before the House Judiciary Committee on November 7 for a transcribed interview. It is anticipated that the interview would take place in private behind closed doors.
Weiss and other federal prosecutors who are participating in the Hunter Biden probe are being asked to appear in front of the House Judiciary Committee by its chairman, Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). Jordan has been trying to make this happen. It was on October 11 that Jordan made the initial request for Weiss to appear. Back in July, the Department of Justice (DOJ) had already extended an invitation to Weiss to give a public testimony.
Weiss was given the role of special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland in August, and his responsibilities include overseeing the investigation into Hunter Biden and any concerns linked to it. Since 2018, the investigation has been headed by Weiss, who is the United States Attorney for the District of Delaware. The suspicions that politics may have impacted or delayed prosecutorial judgments in the investigation targeting the president’s son led to his appointment as a special counsel, which followed the allegations.
The first thing that Weiss did as the special counsel was to charge Hunter Biden with various crimes relating to the purchase and possession of a firearm. Hunter Biden pled not guilty to all of the charges, and Weiss was successful in having Hunter Biden charged. According to statements made by Weiss, the inquiry against Hunter Biden is still going on.
The interview with Weiss takes place at a time when House Republicans are investigating whether or not President Biden should be impeached. Following the resignation of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-California, from his position as House speaker, the fate of the impeachment investigation is now unknown. It is anticipated that Jordan will hold a third vote for the speaker position on Friday. Jordan is now the Republican contender for speaker.
