Alina Habba, the attorney representing former President Donald Trump, appeared on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo to discuss the ongoing civil fraud trial against Trump in New York. During the interview, Habba expressed strong opinions about the case and the involvement of New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Habba revealed plans to file for a mistrial, expressing concerns about bias due to the judge being the same one who issued a gag order in the case. She also questioned the basis of the accusations against Trump, which allege overvaluation of assets. Bartiromo inquired about the third-party evaluations and auditors involved in the process, to which Habba responded that Trump had used a reputable accounting firm and worked with sophisticated lenders like Deutsche Bank. She emphasized that these lenders were not harmed, as they received timely payments with interest.
The conversation then shifted to the involvement of Trump’s children in the trial. Habba asserted that the children were wrongly implicated in the case, suggesting that their inclusion was more about generating publicity for James than about legal substance. She argued that there was no corruption or conspiracy involving Trump’s children, with Ivanka already being out of the case and stating that the others should not be involved either.
Habba further criticized James, accusing her of pursuing the case for political gain and publicity. She recalled that James had campaigned on taking action against Trump even before becoming attorney general. Habba contended that no one was harmed by Trump’s actions and urged James to dismiss the case, suggesting that her focus should be on other issues facing the city.
Throughout the interview, Habba maintained a strong defense of Trump and his family, challenging the motivations and legal basis of the attorney general’s case against them.
