In a disturbing incident at the Freeman Street subway station in the Bronx, two NYPD officers were assaulted on Monday afternoon. The confrontation began when the officers, who were monitoring the station, asked Kaream McClary, 23, and Izayiah Jessamy, 20, along with a third individual, to extinguish their cigarettes inside the station. The request led to a refusal and subsequent altercation.
According to police reports, the situation escalated when the officers attempted to escort the men out of the station, resulting in a physical confrontation. A video that surfaced on social media captured the intense moment, showing two of the men aggressively attacking one of the officers with repeated punches to the head, neck, and face. The footage depicts the officer defensively covering his head amidst the scuffle.
The video later shows the officer managing to apprehend one of the assailants. Meanwhile, other bystanders are seen in the background of the video, with some shouting and observing the scene.
McClary and Jessamy were both arrested and face charges including assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and trespassing. The third individual involved in the incident remains at large and is being sought by the police.
Fortunately, both officers sustained only minor injuries and received on-site medical attention. The incident has raised concerns about safety in public transportation areas and the risks faced by law enforcement officers in their line of duty.
