In a striking admission, Congressman George Santos, currently embroiled in controversy, anticipates his imminent removal from the House of Representatives. In a candid interview on X Space, Santos, who has been at the center of a series of scandals, voiced his disapproval of the conduct he claims to have observed among his congressional peers.
Santos, speaking with journalist Monica Matthews, lamented the alleged misconduct of fellow lawmakers, accusing them of prioritizing personal indulgences over their legislative duties. “There are those who prioritize socializing with lobbyists over their responsibilities to the American people,” Santos claimed. He criticized some colleagues for their absenteeism during crucial votes, attributing it to their excessive social activities.
Reflecting on his own tenure in Congress, Santos acknowledged the looming likelihood of his expulsion, as the House prepares for a third attempt to remove him. Defiantly, he declared, “If they expel me, I’ll regard it as a badge of honor. I might be the sixth member of Congress to be expelled, but I’ll be the first without a conviction.”
Santos’s tenure has been marred by allegations and admissions of fabricating significant aspects of his background, in addition to facing federal fraud charges. Recent revelations from the bipartisan House Ethics Committee have further damaged his reputation, uncovering misuse of campaign funds for personal expenditures, including botox treatments and subscriptions to OnlyFans.
House Ethics Committee Chairman Rep. Michael Guest (R-Miss.) has taken steps to introduce a resolution to formally expel Santos from the chamber. This move comes in the wake of the committee’s findings and is slated for a vote post-Thanksgiving weekend.
As the vote approaches, Santos’s future in Congress hangs in the balance, with his expected expulsion marking a dramatic end to a tenure clouded by controversy and deception.
