Hunter Biden has expressed his readiness to appear before the House Oversight Committee, according to his attorney Abbe Lowell. However, Biden’s participation comes with the condition that his testimony be conducted in an open, public hearing, rather than the closed-door session initially requested by the committee. This development is a critical part of the ongoing House impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

Lowell emphasized the importance of transparency in his client’s testimony, stating, “We have observed closed-door sessions being used to potentially skew facts and mislead the public. Therefore, we advocate for an open hearing. If the matters being investigated are of genuine public interest, they should be discussed openly.” He confirmed that Hunter Biden is prepared to testify on the scheduled date of December 13, or on an alternate date in December that can be mutually agreed upon.

Responding to this proposal, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) acknowledged Hunter Biden’s willingness to testify while also emphasizing adherence to standard procedures. Comer stated, “Hunter Biden cannot dictate his own terms. House Republicans expect him to comply with our lawfully issued subpoena for a deposition on December 13. However, we agree that he should also have the chance to testify in a public setting at a later date.”

The House Republicans have issued subpoenas to both Hunter Biden and his uncle James Biden as part of their investigation into the president. Reports indicate that James Biden is currently in discussions with the committee regarding his own subpoena compliance.
