In a recent interview with CNN’s Abby Phillip, radio host Charlamagne Tha God reflected on his 2020 presidential endorsement, expressing mixed feelings about his support for the Biden-Harris ticket. Charlamagne candidly shared that while he doesn’t necessarily regret endorsing Joe Biden, he remains mindful of his audience’s reactions, especially when they feel let down by Biden’s performance.
Charlamagne stated, “When my listeners feel like [Biden] didn’t deliver, they come back to me.” He described Biden as historically being “a sh—y elected official,” but contrasted this by highlighting his belief that Donald Trump poses a threat to democracy. “Donald Trump is the end of democracy as we know it,” Charlamagne emphasized during the interview.
The discussion also turned to Vice President Kamala Harris, with Charlamagne commenting on her visibility since entering the White House. He expressed his belief that the Biden administration has not allowed Harris to fully express her capabilities, and he sees her as becoming overly political. Charlamagne told Politico, “Once they got in the White House, she kind of disappeared,” reflecting his view that the Vice President has not been as impactful as expected.
The interview further delved into the Democratic Party’s broader challenges, particularly in messaging. Charlamagne criticized the party’s traditional approach, such as visiting Black churches and soul food restaurants, as ineffective. He also expressed his bewilderment at Biden’s polling struggles against Trump, given Trump’s numerous legal challenges.
Charlamagne’s comments come at a time of intense political scrutiny and debate, as the nation looks towards the upcoming presidential election. His views reflect a growing sentiment among some voters who are grappling with the complex realities of political endorsement and the expectations versus the outcomes of elected officials.
