Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has declined Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s request to initiate a criminal investigation into Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for alleged corruption. Governor Kemp, in an exclusive statement to Breitbart News, suggested that Rep. Greene should direct her complaint to the state’s oversight committee for further action.
Rep. Greene’s complaint, filed last week, accuses Willis and her top prosecutor, Nathan Wade, of improper conduct. The complaint alleges that Wade had an inappropriate relationship with Willis and that both met with the Biden administration prior to indicting former President Donald Trump in August. These allegations have raised concerns about potential coordination between the White House and Willis’s office regarding Trump’s prosecution.
Despite the gravity of these allegations, Governor Kemp has chosen not to intervene directly. Instead, he has pointed to a process established by the Georgia General Assembly for handling disciplinary actions against county prosecutors, which he supported and signed into law. A spokesperson for Governor Kemp stated, “The Congresswoman has every right to refer her complaint to the oversight commission once the legislative process concludes this session and the commission begins full operations.”
This decision has sparked frustration among conservatives and Trump’s allies, who view the allegations against Willis as serious and potentially damaging to public confidence in Georgia’s legal system. Kemp’s spokesperson added, “These allegations are deeply troubling and evidence should be presented quickly. Georgians must have confidence in our legal system and its procedures, and these allegations — in addition to the lack of direct response from District Attorney Willis — jeopardize that confidence.”
Rep. Greene, in her exclusive interview with Breitbart News, expressed urgency in the matter, urging Governor Kemp and Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr to use their power to launch a criminal investigation into Willis and Wade. She emphasized the impact of Willis’s prosecution on Trump and his co-defendants, highlighting the financial and emotional strain they are facing.
The controversy over Willis’s conduct and the subsequent call for investigation underscores the deep political divide in Georgia and the ongoing tensions surrounding the 2024 presidential election.
