Following his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has endorsed former President Donald Trump, a move met with gratitude by Trump. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Trump expressed his appreciation and readiness to collaborate with DeSantis for the upcoming election.
DeSantis, in his video announcement, acknowledged the GOP primary voters’ preference for Trump, referencing Trump’s challenges during his presidency and legal struggles as factors for his support. While noting past differences with Trump on issues like COVID-19 and Dr. Anthony Fauci, DeSantis stressed Trump’s advantage over Biden.
DeSantis also critiqued Nikki Haley, Trump’s main rival, as a symbol of an old Republican establishment, describing her platform as a rehashed version of traditional corporatism.
Trump, who had previously nicknamed DeSantis “Ron DeSanctimonious,” stated he would no longer use the moniker, signifying a new phase in their relationship.
Trump’s win in the Iowa caucuses and his lead in New Hampshire polls underscore his frontrunner status in the GOP race. DeSantis’ exit and endorsement could further consolidate Trump’s support and bolster his chances for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election.
