Former MSNBC host Tiffany Cross has openly slammed the organization, claiming that management pressed her to support an anti-Trump narrative and questioned her competence. Cross’s remarks, which she made on her brand-new podcast “Native Land Pod,” have drawn a lot of attention, but MSNBC has not responded.
MSNBC abruptly terminated Cross’s contract in November 2022; Cross had anchored “The Cross Connection” for two years. Breaking her quiet on the podcast, which she co-hosts with Andrew Gillum and Angela Rye, Cross claimed that MSNBC officials were pressuring her to concentrate on criticizing former President Donald Trump in particular and restricting her editorial freedom. “Trump, Trump, Trump was the network’s motto. “They desired for me to be a member of the echo chamber,” stated Cross.
In addition, Cross said that MSNBC officials examined her scripts more closely than those of her male, white coworkers, and that the network was spreading unfavorable press reports about her. She talked about how bosses treated her like a child, refusing to give her a proper send-off on air, which could have harmed her chances of finding work in the sector.
Despite Cross’s explicit accusation of network president Rashida Jones and her charges of fabricating unfavorable press coverage, MSNBC has refrained from responding to her claims.
With former MSNBC star Keith Olbermann standing up for Cross, the matter garnered even more attention. He questioned the support that current MSNBC hosts have shown for Cross and their willingness to put principles ahead of profits, criticizing them for their silence on the subject.
This scandal brings to light persistent problems with editorial freedom, variety of opinion, and how on-air talent is handled inside major news networks. Cross’s frank critique of MSNBC shows the difficulties that celebrities in the media have when attempting to navigate the complicated world of political commentary and broadcast journalism.
