Donald Trump, in a recent interview with FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo, criticized the Democratic push towards electric vehicles (EVs), suggesting it could harm the American auto industry and its workers. Trump’s remarks came in the wake of receiving an endorsement from the United Auto Workers (UAW) union President Shawn Fain for President Joe Biden. Trump argued that the Democrat’s EV mandate is “insane,” citing concerns over the vehicles’ range, cost, and the fact that many components are manufactured in China, not the United States.

Trump also responded to Fain’s endorsement of Biden on Truth Social, questioning the UAW president’s vision for an all-electric vehicle future. He warned that EVs require fewer workers to manufacture and may not be as desired by consumers, potentially leading to job losses. Trump vowed to bring back the automobile industry to the U.S. and criticized the current trend of manufacturing in Mexico and selling tariff-free in the U.S.

Furthermore, Trump met with the Teamsters Union, aiming to appeal to blue-collar workers who played a significant role in his 2016 victory. He expressed his belief that Biden’s reelection would be detrimental to the country for various reasons, including the future of the automobile industry.

In addition to automotive concerns, Trump shared his apprehensions about advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), labeling it as a “tremendous problem” for security. He highlighted the potential for AI to be misused, including in warfare, and stressed the need for immediate action to regulate the technology.

Trump’s comments underline his campaign’s focus on protecting American jobs and industries from what he perceives as threats posed by Democratic policies and the rapid advancement of technology.
