In a recent development at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS), a student has been apprehended in connection to a tragic shooting that occurred within a campus dormitory, resulting in two fatalities. The Colorado Springs Police Department disclosed that early on the morning of February 19, 2024, Nicholas Jordan, a Detroit, Michigan native and UCCS student, was taken into custody without any complications.
The arrest followed an intensive investigation into the events of February 16, 2024, when police were alerted to gunfire at Crestone House, one of the university’s dormitories. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals, Samuel Knopp, 24, from Parker, Colorado, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, from Pueblo, Colorado, deceased with gunshot wounds to the head.
Authorities have indicated that this tragic incident appears to be an isolated case, stemming from a dispute among individuals who knew each other, rather than a random act of violence against the university or its student body. This characterization seeks to reassure the campus community about their safety while underscoring the personal nature of the incident.
Jordan, who was actively enrolled at UCCS at the time of the shooting, faces charges of first-degree murder in relation to the deaths of Knopp and Montgomery. The investigation into their deaths continues, with the Coroner’s Office working to determine the exact cause and manner of death, both of which are being treated as homicides.
The university and local law enforcement are focused on providing justice for the victims and their families, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the commitment to thorough investigative processes. This tragic event has undoubtedly impacted the UCCS community, prompting a renewed focus on safety and security measures on campus.
