In a recent episode of the “Democracy Docket” podcast, Hillary Clinton delivered scathing remarks regarding former President Donald Trump, implying that should he be re-elected, Trump would strive to implement authoritarian measures similar to those implemented by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Clinton, who was Trump’s opponent in the 2016 presidential election and former Secretary of State, elaborated on her views concerning Trump’s reverence for strongman leadership styles.

In the podcast, which was conducted by Marc Elias, a Democratic election lawyer and former general counsel for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, the former candidate conveyed profound apprehensions regarding the possible resurgence of Trump. She leveled the accusation that he held leaders such as Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping of China, and Kim Jong-un of North Korea in high regard, implying that Trump’s approach to governance might perilously resemble theirs. Clinton posited that Trump’s strategy might result in significant consequences for democratic conventions and worldwide equilibrium.

“Trump was absolutely enraged with Putin because Putin executes the exact same goals that Trump himself desires: exterminate his opponents, imprison them, exile journalists and others, and rule without any accountability or oversight,” Clinton said, painting a bleak picture of what she fears Trump’s presidency could consist of.

Moreover, she cautioned against particular policy measures that Trump, should re-elected, might implement, including the withdrawal of the United States from NATO and a reduction in its participation in international alliances and surveillance capacities. Clinton underscored the heightened peril associated with these prospective actions, not only on a domestic level but also with regard to worldwide political dynamics, specifically concerning Europe and ongoing hostilities such as the Ukraine conflict.

Clinton has consistently criticized Trump’s foreign policy since her 2016 loss, accusing him of being excessively accommodating to Putin’s agenda and focusing on his interactions with Russia. Her most recent remarks reaffirm her position that a potential re-election for Trump would significantly jeopardize the security of the United States and the world.

Amid ongoing political tension and with both figures continuing to exert influence over their respective parties and national discourse, these statements are made. Clinton issues scathing cautionary statements with the intention of stimulating voter deliberation regarding the ramifications of a political environment influenced by what she perceives as Trump’s autocratic tendencies.
