District Attorney of Monroe County Sandra Doorley has publicly apologized in the wake of the disclosure of bodycam footage allegedly showing her bellowing at a police officer during a traffic stop. Doorley confessed her transgression and conveyed remorse in her apology for her conduct, which she acknowledged fell short of the anticipated benchmarks for her role.
Regarding the occurrence that prompted the contrition, Doorley was stopped for speeding. Rapidly, the conflict intensified, and Doorley attempted to exert influence over the situation by utilizing her position—a move that has since been widely criticized. She is audibly and visually identified in the bodycam footage disregarding the officer’s justification for the stop, remaining in her garage, and refusing to cooperate by using derogatory language towards the officer.
Doorley expressed regret in her apology as follows: “I failed you and the standards to which I hold myself last Monday. For that, I sincerely apologize. “My actions were erroneous; I make no excuses and accept complete accountability for them.” She acknowledged that the three homicides that had occurred that day had caused her stress, which she believed contributed to her poor management of the interaction; however, she maintained that this did not justify her conduct.
Additionally, the district attorney demonstrated accountability by entering a guilty plea to the speeding citation and remitting the corresponding fine. She formally notified the district attorney of an opposing county to examine the situation and made a solemn commitment to completely assist in the investigation.
